One of the things we shouldn't do, is think that we know all about who and what God is, and what he wants from us. We cannot put God in a box. To do that is to risk missing something amazing. The Pharisees did that - and look how much they missed!
There is a tendency to try to tie up all the loose ends of our beliefs with logical, biblically based arguments which we lock into place, offering God no room to teach us. While it's always good to be searching out the truth in life, we should never be so arrogant as to assume we have it all sorted.
I am in no way stating that I have it all figured out. I'm on a learning quest. God is big enough and deep enough that that should take me a while. But two verses stand out to me in my search for who he is. The first is "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8 Not "God is all about love" or even "God loves us" (which he does!), but "God IS love"! He loves because he can do no other! And nor would he want to! That is who he IS!
And then, if you wanted to know what that looked like - Jesus said "... If you have seen me, you have seen the Father..." John 14:9 If you want to see "God IS love" in action, get into who Jesus was, and everything he stood for. Read the stories and try to understand his thoughts and feelings as he shared that love around. And as you begin to see the purity and richness of that love, you will be opening yourself up to really understanding who God is!
Be open always to learning. Don't get stuck just believing in something because you were taught it was true.
