Just some thoughts this morning from a story in Genesis chapter 32...
It struck me as odd, that Jacob wrestled with a man/angel/Jesus all night - and that that person had had to 'touch' his hip, causing a permanent limp, in order to overcome him and end the fight. Surely a supernatural being was easily able to overcome a man. So why did he allow the struggle to go all night, and then resort to a supernatural 'touch' to put the man out of action?
Was it because Jacob was used to using his own 'smarts' and skills to manipulate his successes in life? Did he need to bring Jacob to the point of absolute exhaustion at his own efforts, and then make him aware that forever he would be inadequate in his own strength - that he was, and always would be, completely reliant on God as the provider of all blessings in his home? Did God need to bring out in Jacob, complete humility, in order for him to successfully reconnect with the brother he had severely wronged, who was coming for him with 400 men?
Hmmmm... Food for thought...
