If you're anything like me, you tend to spend your day "putting out fires". I get up, deal with feeding pets and morning routines to prepare me for work. I'm an agency theatre nurse, so my job is fairly stressful and high-paced - I'm constantly on alert and scurrying to fill its demands.
Then it's back to home, and caring for laundry, cleaning, groceries and meals. In between, I try to help my daughter care for her very energetic and inquisitive little boy. And make time for my Dad who's stuck in an aged care home now. And once a fortnight I help with Orange Sky - a group that provide laundry services for the homeless.
So life is busy. And constantly filled with little emergencies. And we scurry from day to day like that! It's only in rare moments that we stop, take in the day that's gloriously erupting around us, and breathe it all in!! And that's when we actually live in a moment of "present".
I guess my "God time" in the mornings helps me to do that - and maybe that's part of the reason why I love it so much. It's also why I love Sabbath, because God actually tells us to stop for a whole day! - and breathe it in!!!
I suspect that your life is not so different from mine. I suspect that you too, are scurrying from one urgent errand to another. May I encourage you today, to stop a moment here and there, and breathe. Notice the life that's swelling all around you! Revel in "being present" in it! And don't just scurry your way through your days without stopping to be aware of "life"!
