Refocus...

There are times when I struggle with dark memories. When my mind tries to understand what went wrong. When old hurts are stirred and old feelings resurface. I'm confronted again with resentments against another for pain they've inflicted. And I begin to question once more, how one really forgives when the memories can't be erased, and when the mind links the memory to those feelings of the past.

It's easy to get bogged down in those unanswerable questions. It's easy to sink with the weight of their load. The only way I've found to be free of them, is in the words of a very old song

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus.... Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace."

It's true. If I take my eyes off those memories, and focus instead on how beautiful Jesus is, and how much he loves me, those things that plague me just melt away, and I'm free again, to live in the beauty of now.
