My Garden Stake!

I remember helping my Dad in the garden. He really did love watching living things grow - especially those that would offer up food for him and his family! And so that the bugs wouldn't feast too much on those precious gifts, Dad would train them to grow upwards, supported by stakes he had driven into the soil, close to them.

I was talking to God this morning, thinking back over my life and realising how much strength He had been to me in everything I'd been through. And this memory flashed into my mind.

He was my "support stake"! Upright and enduring through all the elements, my life secured closely to him, I've grown away from those things that might destroy the good "fruit" of my life. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Gal 5:22-23). Attributes that make up who he is! These are the things he has drawn me towards, instead of those things that slowly eat at who we are.

Who would have thought? - God my garden stake 😄. But I'm so very grateful for the way he's held me all my life. ❤️
