Morning Glory

I was sitting outside, watching the morning bloom into day, and listening to the raucous cries of the black parrots in the treetops near me, mixed with the tinier twitters and chirps of the smaller birds. And their morning joyfulness spoke to my heart of excitement at the birth of a new day with all its potential for wonderful things! Their exuberance at the beauty of sunrise, knowing the one who created them had provided every good thing for them in this world, and wanted them to simply enjoy his gifts. And it made me think.

As innocent children, we know how to delight in good things this way. But as adults, we become focused on duties and stressors, and weighed down by the effort of life. Maybe that's what Jesus tried to give us back! The innocent joy of children in the beauty of what he's provided.

Maybe today, try and let go, and revel in the wonder of the precious things in life. Maybe that's another reason for the gift of a day of rest - to be like a child, and let go of the duties, and simply be blessed by the good things he gives.
