There are things that kind of bind themselves to you. Things that wrap themselves around your mind, infiltrating your very soul if they go unnoticed. A bit like the wisteria I have growing in my garden. It looks flimsy enough, but all of a sudden you find it popping up all over the garden as the roots have spread beneath the soil. And unless you keep on top of it, it can take over your whole garden!
So it is with the painful things you have to deal with in life - humiliations, insults, aggressions, failures, dismissions - the things that strike at the heart of who we are. Those things seem to latch on tightest! Dig deep inside us. Eat away at our soul! Unless we decide not to let them. Unless we decide to cut ties with them. Not let them destroy our peace and cloud our thoughts.
It takes deliberate effort and redirection, but we can choose to let go of the past and live from this moment forward. To decide that we don't want our past to tear down who we are. To live with freedom from this moment! Basically, that's what Jesus came to tell us! To give us! Trade what hurts in you for the abundant, beautiful and positive life he offers! Don't let those things eat at you anymore and steal the joy of your today and tomorrow.
