You know those sessions I talk about, driving to work in the mornings, talking to God - I've come to know him as quite the psychologist! And I've learned something about myself this morning...
I've spent most of my life craving kindness. It began in my childhood years, and has followed me through the years. And I would give a little piece of my heart to whoever shared kindness with me. It has been a subconscious driver in my relationships, to the point where I have even made uncharacteristically poor moves in response to kindness offered by someone. And I have worn the repercussions of those moves.
I don't know why "kindness" seems such a soft and unimpressive word! It certainly has been a huge drive in me! And I would imagine I'm not the only one. It is definitely one of the big reasons I love God so much. There's a song that Leslie Philips wrote many years back 😄, but the words kind of say it all for me...
YOUR KINDNESS
Waiting for angry words to sear my soul
Knowing I don't deserve another chance
Suddenly the kindest words I've ever heard
Come flooding from God's heart
It's your kindness that leads us
To repentance Oh Lord
Knowing that You love us
No matter what we do
Makes us want to love You too (x2)
No excuse no one to blame, nowhere to hide
The eyes of God have found my failures, found my pain
He understands my weaknesses and knows my shame
But His heart never leaves me.
It's your kindness that leads us
To repentance Oh Lord
Knowing that You love us
No matter what we do
Makes us want to love You too (x2)
If You are for us
Who can be against us
You gave us everything
even Your only Son.
Never underestimate what kindness might do in the life of another. It is much more powerful than we realise.
