There are lines from a book by Robert Munsch, that I used to read to my kids. They've been playing in my head since I lost my Dad. They're slightly adapted, because it seems to fit better in my head - to fit me better. They go like this - "I'll love you forever. I'll [love] you for always. As long as I'm living, your [child I will] be."
They're particularly poignant to me right now because of my Dad, but the more they've run through my head, the more they've had meaning in other relationships. My kids for instance. No longer children. Full grown and living life as adults. But those lines remain - "I'll love you forever. I'll love you for always. As long as I'm living, my child you will be."
And then, with the most beautiful Father I've ever known - the one who has held me through time, and always will. One of my prayers has become this - "I'll love you forever. I'll love you for always. As long as I'm living, your child I will be." Beautiful lines. Simple. And pure. From a children's book. But so full of meaning.
