Last night my hubby helped me decorate our Christmas tree. It's the first year in a very long time that it's been just us. But my daughter is a new mother in her own home, and my son was celebrating a friend's graduation - and still that naked tree was calling me to dress it in beauty.
There is something about Christmas that begs us to bring loveliness to our homes and communities! There is a sense of warmth, and joy, and quiet excitement! And this year especially, people have been drawn to its atmosphere - even earlier than usual. Because of its air of innocent gladness!
Beneath my tree, I arrange a precious little scene - of shepherds, and wise men, barn animals and an angel, and a sweet little family with a newborn babe. Is it the wonder of the freshness of new life that we love? That feeling of closeness and family warmth? Or do we sense in that image, a story far greater than fiction - that offers hope and the life of peace and kindness, that deep in our hearts we hunger for.
