Blind...
While I prayed this morning, I was realising how hard it is to see God unless you're spending close time with him. Even for those who believe he is!! And I was thinking how hard it is to believe in anything these days with all the deception that surrounds us! And we've been taught "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is!". We've been burnt many times and become very sceptical. We won't believe something unless we see it with our own eyes! (And then there are those who believe all sorts of lies - but that's another story). How then do we help people to see something that can't physically been seen??
And into my mind flashed the story of Saul, otherwise known as Paul. He'd been an unbeliever, chasing down those Jesus followers who were so "deluded". And Jesus stopped him in his tracks with a blinding (literally!) light! He could not see! - until a believer came and shared the gift of sight Jesus wanted to give him! And "something like scales" fell from Saul's eyes. (Acts 9:18)
Saul had to experience something devastating - the loss of his sight, with complete inability to act without help - for him to give up his preconceived ideas about who and what God was. Only then was God able to open his eyes so he could "see" the real spiritual kingdom!
So I'm praying for the scales to fall from the eyes of those who can't see him here! I feel a sense of trepidation as I do so because I know what he had to do to turn Saul around! And I know what it's taken with me! But I also know this - God is good and light. He loves each one way more than I do! And I know his plan for us is to have abundant life!!! So I trust him in bringing each one to him with this prayer - knowing he will not allow more than is necessary to bring them to the life that is way more beautiful than what they currently know.
