I am intrigued by the two images I see in the Bible, of people asleep in a boat in the middle of intense storm. One is Jonah - running in the opposite direction from God, curled up either in the deepest need to escape from what his reality is right then, or perhaps from a sense of absolute defeat, giving himself up to the intent of the God who rules nature. He has no concern for what happens to his shipmates. Only a need to be oblivious to what he has done.
And then there is Jesus, exhausted from his constant concern and compassion for those around him, perfectly at rest in the knowledge that God, his Father, was the ruler of the elements, and that he could trust him to take him through the storm. And he knew those with him were safe too. For he still had a job to do, and his focus was fixed there.
Just one of the similarities in a story of two very different people. Love revisiting old stories and seeing new things...
