The bible often uses the ocean to symbolise a sea of people. In the story of Peter walking on the waves, as long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus he did not sink. But when his eyes were on the waves, they could not support him. People will let us down. They are only human. Even the closest ones in our life will let us down - and those times hurt the most. But if we look always to Jesus for our strength to live, for our purpose and sense of worth, we will stand secure. Turn our eyes to people for our sense of who we are, and we will find ourselves sinking.
