I came across this verse recently - and it was as though I'd never seen it before. It's found in John 11, and it says "When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled."
It's in the story where Lazarus has died, and the people who loved him are grieving. Now I knew that Jesus grieved too. These were people he had spent time with, and loved. But it's the 'deep anger' that surprised me! Where did that come from? What was it directed at?
Jesus was angry about the obscenity of death itself! He was angry about the way it tore people apart! He who had given the gift of life and relationship to mankind, was angry that it was being stolen from them!!! It was part of what drove him on to face his horrible fate, and deal the fatal blow to his enemy!
Death still steals from us. But not for much longer. Jesus has beaten death. There is coming a time when God will say "Enough!". He is coming back, and he will bring his life with him! The only reason he has not already come - "The Lord isn’t slow to keep his promise, as some think of slowness, but he is patient toward you, not wanting anyone to perish but all to change their hearts and lives". 2Pet 3:9
He cannot save anyone unless they are willing! Is he waiting for you???
