Jesus knew what he was walking into that weekend.
He tried many times to warn his disciples so that they wouldn't be blown away by what would come. But while they heard with their ears, their hearts couldn't accept what he was saying. They could not bear the thought that something so awful could happen to the one they loved. They didn't want to think of losing him!
And it crushed their concept of what their Messiah was to be! He was supposed to save their nation from the Romans!! Make them great again!! What Jesus was saying just did not compute! So his words fell unheeded to the ground.
But Jesus knew what was coming.
In his humanity he struggled with the horror before him. And yet, knowing he could have walked away at any time, he resolutely placed one foot in front of the other, in his final march towards Jerusalem.
What courage. To walk forwards. To push his way to the end. When it wasn't even for him!!! But he knew it was the only way to save us from the curse of death we'd brought upon ourselves. So he went anyway. Even knowing so many wouldn't even "get" it. And for them it would be wasted.
He had access to so much power! He could have called 10,000 angels who would have rushed to his aid in an instant!! But he refused to use it, and solidly trod that path alone. With such deeply courageous love. For me. And you. Because there was no other way.
Put yourself in his place for just a moment. How hard would that have been. To know it all. Have a way out. And yet refuse to take it. Because this was the only way to win for us. How could you not love him?.
