We have all done things wrong in our lives. None of us is blameless. There will come a time when we are called to account for the things we have done. The good things won't be questioned. But the bad things carry a penalty. Would you rather stand alone in your defence? Or with Jesus by your side? And by the way - he doesn't stand as defence between us and God! He is the expression of God in a way we can see him! He stands between us and the law - and the sentence that applies to breaking it!
That law represents the way of life in all its goodness. Breaking it represents the broken life. Which leads to the end of life. All of us are due the wages of the broken life. It is only Jesus' unbroken life, standing in our place, that gives us a brand new start. Make a friend of him! And not just for this! He's the best friend you'll ever have.
