His Holiness ...

As light destroys darkness as it moves into its space, so holiness destroys unholiness. And we are full of that unholiness!!! And God is fully holy and pure. God could not come near us without his holiness destroying us. That's why he told the Israelites to stay back from the mountain he came down to. It's why the priests had to be purified before they could come into his presence.

God had no desire to destroy us! That's why he warned us!! And we became afraid of him. There was no way for us to work our way back to the place where he could be near us again. Sin had tainted the very core of our being. And so ... Jesus.

God enveloped himself in the wrappings of humanity so that he could be near us. He wanted us to see his love for us! He wanted to show us his intent for us!! That it wasn't to destroy us, but to bring us life again!! And goodness. And true love. He wanted us to love who he is, and not be afraid of him. "Perfect love casts out fear" 1 John 4:17

Jesus came to show our untrusting minds the true heart of God. To teach us that he was willing to take all of our darkness upon himself in order to destroy it by his light! Without destroying us!!! Jesus came to make it possible for God in all his holiness, to be near us again. To have intimate connection with us again - the way he always intended!

That is his true heart. He can never not be holy. So he takes the unholiness out of us and replaces it with his own holiness. And then we can safely be with him.
