My daughter made a beautiful pie yesterday! She rarely bakes, but we're having our Thanksgiving dinner tonight, and she wants it to be special! So she made it with careful detail, from scratch, pouring love into it for her Dad, who she knows loves and misses cherry pie.
It sparked a thought in me while I sat and thought of the love God has for us. I thought of him carefully designing and creating the beautiful masterpiece that we are, pouring love into every detail. And how he looked forward to watching us live and create in the delights of this world he formed for us!
How heartbroken he was when we decided he wasn't for us - as he watched us turn against his perfect way of life and become numb to his presence. How sad to watch the selfish, grasping and unlifting lifestyle we chose over his - to watch his beautiful creations tear each other down!
That wasn't what he had in mind for us! And because we'd become so numb to him, he could no longer help us up and out of the holes we dug. So he came here, and showed himself. And how much he loved us!! And some of us got it!! And he gently began his work of restoration to the beauty in us he intended.
But still his heart aches for so many more. For in each he sees the love he's poured in. In each he recognises a precious creation as it was meant to be! And he longs to put it right. Filled with the beautiful detail of one created with the deepest love.
