Love in Consequences

As parents we know it's not good if we don't follow through on consequences of poor behaviour - even though it might break our hearts a little to watch what our kids have to go through. Children learn as they experience the results of their behaviours. And hopefully these experiences lead to better behaviours. Protecting them from consequences of bad behaviours only perpetuates, and possibly magnifies, the problem, as they see no negative results.

I'm thinking God has a similar dilemma when it comes to us. He loves us, and doesn't want to see us struggling and in pain, but simply protecting us from it does not teach us the harm in what we are doing. We will simply continue to live poorly. Only by allowing us to live the consequences of our choices, does he get us to recognise our great need of a better way.
