New Wine

I read something this morning that triggered a thought I'd never quite had before! I love that! It was part of a collection of slides with quotes about moving forward with life, and not looking back - along with sweet cartoon pictures of a little person walking with Jesus.
One of the tiles held the quote about wineskins. "And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” Mark 2:22
Jesus was talking about old religious systems that had lost their flexibility and were unable to tolerate a new way of thinking. But it's use in the sequence this morning made me think - this also applies to our lives right now!
In order to create the new purposes and directions we want for our lives, we need to stop dwelling on the things that have trapped us in our past! To move forward in beautiful ways, we need to keep looking in that direction, and not backwards! Fill our new life, from this day forward, with the thoughts and practices of the life we want to be in, not with the failures and regrets of the past. Because they will just destroy us. 💜
