Tuning in...

Do you remember when we used to have to turn a dial to tune into a radio station? (Maybe I'm just showing my age now 😄) If you turned the dial too fast it was difficult to actually land on one with a clear signal. You had to turn it carefully, and when you caught some noise you'd gently adjust back and forth until you were right on the wavelength and the signal was coming through clearly.

Now if you were on short-wave radio settings, you might land on any number of stations with languages which might be unintelligible to us. It was fun though, to explore them! Dad could usually give an educated guess on what country it might be from, even when he didn't really know the language, just by hearing it's style.

And then there were the regular, local radio stations. Some were talking about the issues of the day, it might be historic or political or a bit of comedy to laugh along to. I actually enjoyed some of the historic stories, but the political ones left me feeling disturbed and seeing life negatively. Some followed sporting events and were the focus of those who were invested in who was winning.

Then there were the various music styles which characterised different stations - some I would enjoy as they'd make me feel good about life. Others would be jarring, or boring, sad or even a bit distasteful.

Eventually I'd land on a station I liked, tweek it till it sounded just right, and settle in to enjoying what it provided for the background of my activity. And if something came on that jangled my nerves, the process began again!

I was thinking this morning, as I was out praying, that that is kind of what happens in my prayer time! I'm searching for, and tuning in to the one who warms my spirit! Carefully fine tuning until it comes through clearly!! I want to filter out all the negative and static noise that comes from life around me, things that jar my soul, and centre on the clear, sweet sounds of the one who breathes pure love into me! Then I'm in a better place to share my heart with others!
