Christmas Wonder

There is a lot of "magic" about Christmas. The twinkling lights and colourful displays that open our children's eyes wide with wonder! The whispers of a jolly and generous giver who travels the world at tremendous speed delivering gifts to children all over the world! Reindeer who fly!! And eat carrots left out for them!!
We hang pretty baubles on trees strung with lights!! Sing songs of joy and hope and family love!! We sing and we party and family comes home!! We share delicious feasts together, then tumble into the couch to watch Christmas movies!! All of it fun, awakening the skipping child within us!!
It's wondrous and joyous and filled with sweet innocence. And embedded beneath all that wonder and sparkle, lies a contrastingly humble scene - a stable, a betrothed girl giving birth to her first child, a man beside her who has chosen to stay with and protect her.
A child has come. Light into a darkened world. He is the reason for the everlasting trees strung with lights!! He is the gift given by the greatest gift-giver of all!!! He is the hope and the joy and the love that bursts forth at Christmas!!
But his story is easy to miss amongst the sparkling fanfare we've created. Don't lose sight of the "reason for the season". Enjoy the lights, the feasts, family, love and gifts! They are reminders of the most wonderful thing that came into our world!! But don't let them steal your gaze from that humble scene in the stable. That is the true story of Christmas. The reason for it all.
