A dove...

We have these doves that come into our yard and coo gently in the trees. Sometimes they drop to the ground beneath looking for tasty titbits. My pup cannot resist a chase when they're down at her level 😄, but they just lift themselves into the trees above again, waiting for her to be distracted elsewhere so they can resume they're business. Sweet little things.

And it occurred to me - when the spirit of God came upon Jesus at his baptism - the symbol was profound! It wasn't a lion - roaring in disapproval and terrible power! It was a dove! Gentle! Accessible to all! No symbol of threat or aggression!
